Woking FC Boost Squad as Josh Kelly and Tunji Akinola Sign Deals
Red and White Revival at Kingfield Stadium
Excitement is building around Kingfield Stadium as Woking FC secures two vital squad members ahead of the new campaign. Striker Josh Kelly has officially rejoined the Cards on a permanent two-year contract following his release from League One side AFC Wimbledon. The 27-year-old forward is a familiar face to the local faithful, having scored five goals in 24 appearances during a loan spell last season before an unfortunate injury on Boxing Day cut his campaign short. Director of Football Jody Brown expressed immense confidence in Kelly’s abilities, noting that while his match sharpness took time to peak last year, his proven track record at this level makes him a lethal asset. In a double boost for the club, dependable defender Tunji Akinola has also committed his immediate future to Woking, signing a one-year contract extension. The robust 27-year-old has been a cornerstone of the defensive unit, racking up 138 appearances and netting seven goals since arriving from Partick Thistle in 2023. Brown praised Akinola’s versatility, consistency, and outstanding character, highlighting him as a key driver of the club’s recent growth.
The Backbone of Our Community and Local Economy
For Woking residents, the football club is far more than just a weekend distraction; it is the beating heart of our community. Matchdays at the Laithwaite Community Stadium bring vital footfall to local businesses along Kingfield Road and Westfield, from independent cafes and traditional pubs to family-run convenience shops. The club’s success is deeply intertwined with the local economy and its network of homegrown supporters. Among those backing the Cards are local tradespeople, including Guilford builders who specialize in residential home improvements like loft conversion and property extension projects. Just as a high-quality loft refurbishment adds long-term value and structural strength to a family home, these new player signings provide the solid foundation Woking FC needs to build a successful future. The collaboration between local business sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and the playing squad demonstrates the unique community spirit that defines our town. When the stadium lights turn on, the collective energy of Woking’s working-class roots shines through, proving that every ticket bought and sponsor onboarded helps elevate the entire neighborhood.
What This Means for Cards Fans and the Road Ahead
With Kelly’s attacking flair restored and Akinola’s defensive resilience locked in, local fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming National League fixtures. These signings signal a clear intent from the club management to compete at the highest level and push for a memorable season. For local residents looking to get involved, now is the perfect time to secure season tickets or plan a family day out at Kingfield. Supporting your local team not only fosters a great sense of civic pride but also provides affordable, high-quality sporting entertainment right on our doorstep. Beyond the turnstiles, the club continues to run vital community outreach programs, coaching sessions for youth, and charity events that bring neighbors closer together. Keep an eye out for upcoming pre-season friendlies, which will offer the community its first glimpse of the revitalized squad in action. Let us pack the stands, raise our voices, and show the league the passionate spirit of Woking.
